About the contest

Deloitte Belgium organises a Technology Contest for students. In teams of 2 students, you can participate in either a Hacking Contest or an Analytics / Business Intelligence Contest. After subscription, the selected teams will get 20 days to prepare for the contest.
In order to prepare both contests, each team will receive some study material 20 days before the contest. On the day itself, after a few hours of hard work, each team will present the application / the results of the Hacking Game to a panel.

Option 1: Analytics / Business Intelligence Contest

The case study consists of a description of an imaginary company, and a set of data. The objective of the contest is to analyse and explore this dataset and come-up with:

• a Business Intelligence or Analytics application that provides insights in the data
• a „Management Presentation‟ providing conclusions with regard to the case.

On the day of the contest, each team receives an extra dataset that will provide additional insights. This information should be integrated in the Business Intelligence application, as well in the „Management Presentation‟.
You can choose which software to use to develop the application (QlikView, Tableau, RoamBi, Cognos, SPSS, Business Objects, OpenSource, etc.). Most software vendors offer free trial versions that can be used for this contest. Furthermore, each team can choose to develop the application for PC or Tablet (mobile BI such as RoamBi). You will use its own hardware for the contest. The winner of the contest is the team that has the best combination of Business Intelligence application and Management Presentation.

Option 2: Hacking Contest

Information Security is a hot topic nowadays. Understanding security risks is the first step in the prevention of attacks. In this era hacking is easy and defending against it is a tedious task. What is a better way to understand this than to experience it yourself?
During the Hacking Contest, each team will use a preconfigured laptop. You will have to attack and defend, using tools to identify and exploit vulnerabilities. You will lose points if your services are compromised but you will earn points when you can demonstrate a successful attack. You will experience how an “ethical hacker” works and how to secure a server while under attack. The winner of the contest is the team that demonstrates the best combination of hacking and presentation skills.

Who can participate and how to subscribe?

Do you have a Bachelor Applied IT? Do you have a Master Civil Engineering – IT, Computer Sciences or Information Technology? Do you study in Belgium and will you graduate in 2012 or 2013? Do you know a co-student, having the above background, with whom you can enroll as team of 2 students? Then you have it all!
